The government’s goal is to achieve the national electricity grid by 2022 and beyond. The country has two major energy sources, natural gas and hydropower. The latter sources will provide about half of the country’s electricity needs. In contrast, the country’s other primary source of electricity is imported from Honduras. This situation will affect the country’s economy if its natural gas and electricity are not produced locally.
